According to MedicineNet.com, Vitiligo is a disorder when white patches show up on the skin(“Vitiligo Treatment, Causes & Symptoms”). People who have autoimmune diseases are most likely to get/have Vitiligo. This happens because the cells in the pigment are destroyed. The cells is called melanocytes. Symptoms of Vitiligo is white patches of skin, that is normally exposed to the sun. The patches of skin can be on hands, arms, face ,and lips. People with vitiligo tened to get gray hair early on. Often people who have dark skin may have a loss of color in their mouth. Medicinenet states, ¨People with vitiligo often have hair that turns gray early. Those with dark skin may notice a loss of color inside their mouths.

According to Mayo clinic, It claims that there are methods to restore the colour as like tattooing, ¨Micropigmentation or UVA or UVB light” (¨Vitiligo¨) That is when a dermatologic surgeon implants skin pigment into the vitiligo areas of the skin to get the same pigment thought out the body.¨Studies have suggested that variations in a number of other genes may also affect the risk of vitiligo, but most of these associations have not been confirmed.¨(¨vitiligo¨) It also says Many of these genes are involved in immune system function, and some of the gene changes associated with an increased risk of vitiligo have also been associated with an increased risk of other autoimmune conditions. ¨It is unclear what specific environmental circumstances may trigger the immune system to attack melanocytes. (skin cells that produce melanin for pigmentation) in people who have vitiligo. (¨vitiligo¨).

“Vitiligo.” Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 20 Nov. 2012, rarediseases.info.nih.gov/diseases/10751/vitiligo.According to the NIH, it states that “vitiligo sometimes runs in the family but the inheritance pattern is complex (caused by the interaction of multiple genes with environmental factors), and most of the specific genetic and environmental factors that contribute to developing the condition have not been identified.” Therefore, it is hard to predict the exact risk for other family members to develop vitiligo. About one/fifth of people with this condition have at least one close relative who is also affected. “Variations in the NLRP1 and PTPN22 genes have been associated with an increased risk of developing vitiligo.” Finally vitiligo can affect anybody in the family but it has to be inherited. |
According to Medical News Today, There is no cure to this life long condition. But I don't think vitiligo is a problem because it only affects parts of their skin. People shouldn’t be mistreated just because parts of their skins are patched. The cause for this genetic disorder is known to be an or a virus. In the website BBc news, that vitiligo has been known or estimated to be 1% of the population regardless the race. That figure has been around for 25 years. So as you can see, Vitiligo is an inherited disease by the parents to the offspring.
